Shared accounts are the most basic plans that Liquid Web offers. Most customers who have this plan are small businesses or people with fairly low traffic personal sites. If the hosted site uses excessive amounts of bandwidth, maintains a large mailing list, or requires resource intensive scripts , an upgrade to a VPS or Dedicated server is recommended.
Liquid Web currently offers 3 different shared hosting packages:
- Standard – 5GB storage space, 2 free domains, unlimited emails, 120GB of bandwidth per month
- Webmster – 20GB storage space, 3 free domains, unlimited emails, 200GB of bandwidth per month
- Professional – 40GB storage space, 5 free domains or free SSL certificate for one year, unlimited emails, 320GB of bandwidth per month, one dedicated IP address
If a SSL certificate is required for the website being hosted, a Professional plan must be purchased. While there is a shared SSL certificate available for Standard and Webmster accounts, the Professional plan is the only plan that allows site specific SSL certificates.

Shared Hosting advantages:
The shared hosting packages available at Liquid Web are hosted on servers built with premium hardware such as dual opteron processors, 4GB of RAM, and hard drives in a raid 1 array. Liquid Web configures and maintains its shared servers to allow for large bursts of resource usage.

Shared Hosting Disadvantages:
If the account bandwidth limit is exceeded the account is suspended until the end of the month, or until the account is upgraded.
Liquid Web will not install 3rd party applications or scripts that require root level configurations, as the stability of the server could be affected.
Because of the number of users all utilizing the same server Liquid Web is very proactive at suspending accounts that overload the server. Below is a small excerpt from the Liquid Web Shared Hosting Terms of Service covering limitations of resource usage:
Limitations on Use:
Any account using 15% or more of the server CPU or memory can be suspended and/or terminated.Any account that uses excessive amounts of bandwidth can and will be subjected to bandwidth throttling.
Background Processes. Unauthorized background processes shall result in immediate termination of the account. Liquid Web maintains the right to cancel accounts at its discretion.

PCI compliance for websites is not always available on Liquid Web’s shared servers, to become PCI compliant an upgrade to a VPS or Dedicated server is recommended.
